Real-Life Weight Loss Story: Let’s be honest — losing weight gets tougher as we grow older. After 40, metabolism slows down, the body starts reacting differently, and squeezing workouts into busy schedules feels like a task. But Moumita Ghosh, a 42-year-old teacher, decided she wasn't going to let any of that stop her.
Instead of diving into a strict diet or chasing unrealistic routines, she chose a path that worked for her: regular workouts, smaller portions, and no guilt around food. Over 1.5 years, Moumita shed 11 kilos — all while juggling work and life, and still enjoying her favourite meals. But when did she start her transformation journey? What motivated her?

A Turning Point in 2022

Moumita’s transformation story began in 2022 when she decided to join Cult. “I weighed around 72 kg when I joined,” she shared with Times Now. “I started going to group classes 5 to 6 days a week—mostly yoga and HRX, and sometimes strength & conditioning and burn classes.” It didn’t take long for her to start seeing results. “I lost about 10 to 11 kilos within a year, and I’ve maintained that weight till now,” she shares.
What’s more surprising is that Moumita didn’t stick to any rigid diet. “I’m not a diet person,” she reveals. “I ate what I liked, just in smaller portions.” Her approach was simple: eat in moderation and stay active.

What Inspired You To Embark On This Journey?Moumita shares that her biggest motivation was seeing the continuous weight loss. "There’s something incredibly powerful about watching your body transform before your eyes. That feeling kept me going. Also, the encouragement from my trainers pushed me further than I thought I could go," she added.

What Were Some Of The Biggest Challenges You Faced Along The Way?

Despite the progress, Moumita faced her fair share of challenges, especially in the early stages. “Body soreness was the toughest part. There were days I could barely get out of bed after a tough workout. But over time, I learned to embrace it. That discomfort meant I was getting stronger.”
Even during vacations or family holidays, Moumita stayed active. “Trips used to throw off my schedule, but I made sure to walk more or do basic workouts even while travelling. Once I got back, I jumped right into my regular routine.”

Diet And Exercise Regimen Followed During Your Transformation

A balanced diet was the key behind her transformation. "I maintained a balanced diet throughout my journey. While I generally avoided excessive junk food and sweets, I didn’t deprive myself completely. I focused on eating smaller portions every 2–3 hours to keep my metabolism active. Being a foodie, I still enjoyed occasional restaurant meals but kept them within reasonable limits," she shares.

How Did You Overcome Setbacks

Holiday trips threatened to derail her progress, but she found ways to stay active even while travelling. She quickly jumped back into her routine after returning, which prevented any significant setbacks.

Advice For Others: “Just Keep Showing Up”

When asked what advice she’d give others trying to lose weight, her response is simple: “Just keep doing the exercise. There’s no shortcut or magic trick. You have to be consistent. Even on the days you don’t feel like it, show up. Those days matter the most.”

A New Life At 42

For Moumita, the benefits of this transformation go way beyond the number on the scale. “I feel more energetic, confident, and mentally at peace. I’m more productive at work, and I have better clarity throughout the day. The physical change is great, but what I’ve gained emotionally and mentally is even more powerful.”
She adds, “This journey has shown me that it’s never too late to change your life. At 42, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in—and that’s something I never thought I’d say. It just proves that with a little effort every day, anything is possible.”
