As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, Nita Ambani, Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, has delivered an empowering message to women everywhere—prioritize yourself and take charge of your well-being. In a video shared on social media, the 61-year-old philanthropist and entrepreneur encouraged women to embrace their strength, focus on their health, and not put themselves last.
The video, posted on X, begins with a thought-provoking question from Ambani: “When was the last time you did something just for yourself? Not for your family, not for work, not for anyone else—just for you?” This simple yet powerful question resonates with countless women who often juggle multiple responsibilities, unintentionally neglecting their own health and well-being.
Talking about the importance of self-care, the video's caption read, “Unstoppable at 61! This International Women’s Day, Mrs. Nita Ambani shares her inspiring fitness journey and invites women of all ages to prioritize their health and well-being. With her dedicated workout routine, she shows us that age is just a number. ‘Your Body Needs You—Listen to It’

In the video Nita Ambani points out how women are always needed somewhere else, often forgetting to listen to their own bodies. “But here’s the truth—if we don’t take care of ourselves, who will? It’s even more important in your 50s and 60s to focus on health and well-being,” she says.
In the video, she also says, “After the age of 30, women lose about 3-8 per cent muscle mass per decade, and this accelerates as we age. We lose muscle, bone density, balance, mobility, and strength. Our metabolism and endurance go down.” These changes, she explains, make it even more important for women to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle.

‘Leg Days Are My Favourite’—Nita Ambani’s Workout Routine

Revealing her own fitness regime, Nita Ambani shares that she has always been passionate about movement and strength. “Leg days are my favourite. I have the strong legs of a dancer. I have been practising Bharatanatyam since I was 6 years old, but I like to mix it up. Legs, upper body, back—each day focuses on a different part. I work out 5-6 days a week.”
Apart from strength training, mobility, flexibility, yoga, and core strength form a key part of her daily routine. On some days, she includes swimming and aqua exercises, while other days are dedicated to dance—an activity she thoroughly enjoys. “When I am travelling or if nothing else is available, I just like to walk. I walk around 5,000-7,000 steps.”

Nita Ambani’s Balanced Diet

Alongside exercise, Nita Ambani maintains a well-balanced and nutritious diet. “My diet is balanced. I am a vegetarian. My food is more organic and nature-based. It’s very important to take protein, and I absolutely avoid sugar or sugar substitutes.”
Her approach to nutrition is about maintaining long-term health rather than following strict or unrealistic diet plans. She shares the importance of eating clean, whole foods that nourish the body and support energy levels throughout the day.

‘It’s Not About Fighting Age, It’s About Owning It’

For Ambani, fitness is more than just physical health—it’s about mental well-being and quality of life. “Exercise keeps me in a positive frame of mind the entire day. It releases endorphins, the happy hormones that reduce stress. It’s not just about lifting weights; it’s about having the energy and stamina to cope with our daily life.”
She explains that her fitness journey isn’t just for herself but also for the people she loves. “For me, it’s about lifting my grandchildren and keeping pace with them.” Her philosophy isn’t about defying age but about embracing and owning it.
Encouraging women to take that first step towards their health, she concludes with a powerful message: “If I can do this at 61, so can you. Take time out. Prioritize yourself. Show up for yourself. Just 30 minutes a day, four times a week.”
Nita Ambani’s message on Women’s Day is a reminder that self-care is not selfish—it is necessary.
