5 Morning Habits That Help Keep Uric Acid Levels Regulated

Too much consumption of purine builds up more uric acid in your blood which can cause gout

You may not take uric acid seriously, but if there is an imbalance in your body, it can lead to various uncomfortable and painful issues. Usually, your body filters out uric acid through the kidneys and in urine, but if there is too much consumption of purine—found in high levels in some foods and broken down in your body—it builds up in your blood.
A standard uric acid level is under 6.8 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) and higher causes hyperuricemia, leading to gout and making your blood and urine too acidic. However, according to experts, it is possible to regulate uric acid levels naturally with small morning habits.

Drink lots of water

Drinking water and fluids helps your kidneys flush out uric acid faster. According to studies, the kidneys filter out about 70 per cent of uric acid in your body. And so, drinking enough water, especially when you get up in the morning hours, helps support your kidneys and may reduce your risk of uric acid kidney stones.
Always keep a water bottle with you all the time, and you can also set an alarm every hour to remind you to take a few sips.

Take a lemon shot

After you wake up, take the juice of half a lemon in a glass of hot or lukewarm water to help balance your uric acid levels. Also, for an extra kick, you can add a pinch of black salt and a few drops of ginger juice to the mix.
Doctors apart from alkalizing your body, it also stimulates digestion and prevents uric acid crystals from forming in the joints.

Drink coffee

Coffee is extremely helpful in reducing serum uric acid levels in at least two ways:
  • It competes with the enzyme that breaks down purines in the body, lowering the uric acid production rate.
  • It increases the rate at which your body excretes uric acid.
Caffeine in coffee helps increase the rate at which your body excretes uric acid.

Walking barefoot

According to experts, walking barefoot on grass in the morning can do wonders for balancing and maintaining your uric acid levels. Studies say the natural acupressure effect on the soles of the feet stimulates kidney function and promotes better uric acid elimination.
Also, the calming effect of connecting with nature helps lower stress, a lesser-known trigger for uric acid imbalances.

Eat more fibre for breakfast

It is important to add more fibre to your breakfast, which can help reduce your uric acid levels. Studies say fibre also helps balance your blood sugar and insulin levels and increases satiety, keeping you full for longer.
While most adults should aim for 22-34 grams of fibre in their diet throughout the day, for a morning meal you can include smoothies or chia seed pudding, which includes all the major nutrients and helps remove excess uric acid. For an added twist, blending in a handful of soaked walnuts boosts anti-inflammatory benefits.
